New XBLA releases for September 28, 2011

Wednesday! That of course means new releases on the Xbox Live Arcade. Let's take a look at this weeks crop of games... Probably the most notable is Worms Ultimate Mayhem. If you've played the angle and fire turn based worms game before you're in for a bit of a change. 3D gameplay. It is supposed to preserve some of the turn-based aspects though. I'll have to try out the demo. I was never really too keen on the Worms or Worms clone games. The other two games are: a sort of racing game where you slide a blob of goo or mercury around a course called Mercury Hg and a baseball game with encephalitic baseball players called MLB Bobblehead Battle. Oh, I get it, Hg is the periodic symbol for Mercury. Clever. Anyway, scroll below for more details.

Mercury Hg 400 MSP
Mercury is back, all new and in HD! Explore 60 levels of tilting tension, color it, split it and watch the levels pulse to the beat of your own music. Can you attain the top position on the leaderboards and have the world race against your ghost? With the help of the ghost replays shave split seconds off your time and achieve higher scores. Discover the 20 bonus elements and 10 challenges as you explore the world of Mercury Hg.

MLB Bobblehead Battle 800 MSP
(ONLINE INTERACTIONS NOT RATED BY THE ESRB) Knock a curveball out of the ballpark with MLB® Bobblehead Battle! This MLB® bobblehead challenge features all of your favorite teams and players with a unique twist – it’s entirely focused on batting! Create customized fields with various obstacles such as walls and slopes while outsmarting your opponent with a dynamic card system that allows customization of players and more.

Worms: Ultimate Mayhem 1200 MSP
Worms™: Ultimate Mayhem is the definitive 3D Worms™ game! Load your weapons and experience a whole new dimension in destructive turn-based cartoon action! Taking the game into 3D creates all-new strategic and gameplay possibilities. With over 80 single-player missions and challenges, Xbox LIVE multi-player for up to 4 players, 5 multi-player modes, unprecedented customization of both worms and weapons, and fully destructible environments, it’s bursting with anarchic mayhem. Battle and puzzle your way through all of the missions from both “Worms™ 3D” and “Worms™ 4: Mayhem” - it’s essentially two games in one, and is the ultimate 3D Worms™ collection.

Xbox LIVE Deal of the Week September 27 - October 3, 2011

A couple of XBLA games on sale week to mention. Both have a dragon and swords theme, I suppose, if you're looking for any connection between the two. Might & Magic Clash of Heroes is a great puzzler. It's basically an HD version of the DS game that came out before the XBLA version. As for Daggerdale, I haven't heard very many good things about that game. That's definitely a try before you buy title.

  • XBLA - Might & Magic Clash of Heroes 800 1200 Points
  • XBLA - Dungeons & Dragons Daggerdale 800 1200 Points

Xbox Games on Demand for September 27, 2011

While Games on Demand or downloadable games, I feel, in general is a good thing. It beats having to go out to the store at times, especially if it isn't close, and you can download it while you are busy doing other things. But I also always feel that games on demand should not be the same price as they are in the store. I suppose there is the cost of bandwidth for downloading the game but you don't get a box, manual, or physical disc so what justifies the same price? Microsoft, that's just my peeve, especially with Crysis 2 this week. $59.99 to download? But in a brighter light, there is Resident Evil Code: Veronica X. That is new on Xbox so perhaps that justifies it's $19.99 price point although, how old is the game now? Anyway, here is the complete list of releases for Games on Demand for September 27th:

Blur - $39.99 - 5.35GB
The Games on Demand version supports English, French, Italian, German, Spanish. Blur: Powered-Up Racing. Travel the globe to beat the best the streets have to offer. Utilize an armory of Power-ups including huge bursts of energy, defensive shields, nitro speed boosts and mines to beat your rivals across the finish line. Blur features insane collisions, realistic damage, stunning racing environments, real world locations and licensed photo-realistic cars. In multiplayer Blur supports competitive game-play for up to 20 racers online and 4 players locally split-screen.

Crysis 2 - $59.99 - 5.49GB
The Games on Demand version supports English, French. The world has been ravaged by a series of climatic disasters and society is on the verge of total breakdown. Now the aliens have returned, with a full invasion force bent on nothing less than the total annihilation of mankind, starting by trying to rip the heart out of Earth’s most iconic city.In New York, terrifying alien invaders stalk the streets and a nightmare plague strikes down the city’s myriad inhabitants with brutal epidemic speed. The city’s systems are in chaos, its streets and skyline are smashed and in flaming ruin. This is New York City like you’ve never seen it before.Neither paramilitary law enforcement nor the might of the US military machine can stand against the invaders, and all who choose not to flee are dead men walking. Just to survive in this maelstrom of death will require technology beyond anything any modern soldier has ever seen. One man will inherit that means to survive. One supersoldier, wielding the combat enhancement technology of the future with Nanosuit 2, will make the last stand to save humanity from destruction in the urban jungle that is New York City.

Frontlines: Fuel of War - $19.99 - 6.29GB
Frontlines: Fuel of War is a military-themed infantry and vehicle based, open-world first person shooter. The newly formed Red Star Alliance, led by Russia and China, clash with Western Coalition (U.S. & the European Union) forces over increasing energy shortages. This sets the stage for a massive conventional apocalypse pitting the biggest military powers against each other as they try to defend their interests and support their collapsing economies. Frontlines™: Fuel of War Dedicated Servers will no longer be available for the Microsoft® Xbox 360 after August 31st, 2011. Players can continue to host their own sessions, with a maximum player count of 16.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica X $19.99 - 1.83GB
The Games on Demand version supports English. It has been 3 months since the destruction of Raccoon City. Claire Redfield travels to Europe in search of her brother. Claire infiltrates the Paris laboratory of Umbrella Corporation, but is captured after a heated gun fight. The captured Claire is then sent to Rockfort Island, but shortly after her arrival the island is attacked! Amidst the chaos, a horde of zombies are released! Can Claire escape the horrors of the island?

New Feature! - Xbox Games on Demand for September 20, 2011

In an attempt to make you as aware as possible to the games coming out on Xbox Live, we're going to start a new weekly posting of the Xbox Games on Demand. If you're unfamiliar with this category of games on Xbox, it's basically full retail games that are now available for digital download on your Xbox 360. Occasionally that isn't always the case though. This way you're able to skip running down to the nearest Game Stop and waiting in line to pick up the game. Of course, it's typically games that have been out in the retail space for awhile that hit the Games on Demand. This weeks posting is a bit late as Games on Demand currently land on Xbox Live on Tuesdays.

I'm actually quite excited myself to see one of my favorite games come out to Games on Demand -- Resident Evil 4! Resident Evil 4 in HD! I currently own this game on two systems already too.

Here are the releases on Xbox Games on Demand for September 20, 2011:

MLB 2K11 - $39.99
The Games on Demand version supports English. The makers of the award-winning NBA 2K11 return to the diamond with MLB® 2K11. Featuring Right Stick hitting and pitching and a revamped fielding system, MLB 2K11 puts complete control in your hands. Perfect YOUR game and you'll dominate the competition.

Resident Evil 4 - $19.99
The Games on Demand version supports English. Six years after the destruction of Raccoon City, Leon Kennedy, now an agent with the US Secret Service, is sent on a rescue mission in Europe. His target is Ashley Graham, the president's daughter. Leon locates a man in a remote house in the mountains and inquires about Ashley's whereabouts, but receives no answer. Suddenly, the man turns and attempts to strike Leon! Visions of the horror of Raccoon City flood Leon's mind as he realizes his nightmare has not yet ended.

SAMURAI SHODOWN SEN 4 - $19.99
The Games on Demand version supports English, Japanese. Here comes "SAMURAI SHODOWN SEN" - the latest episode of SAMURAI SHODOWN series on Xbox360! As in this title, there are in total 24 well-known along with brand new characters available on the arena, a whole new story featuring "Takechiyo" and "Suzu" is about to unveil. With "Strong Slash" smashing everything along its path, "Bouncing" switching the position of offence and defense, and "Concentration" reversing the result of the battle in a glimpse under critical status, a bunch of cool new elements are added into this new title! Moreover, you can also use "Power Explosion" to power up your attacking capability and increase the number of your skills, and then commence an "Air Combo" to beat your airborne rival to death! What are you still waiting for? Come to experience the whole new SAMURAI SHODOWN now!!!

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II - $19.99
The Games on Demand version supports English, French, Italian, German, Spanish. Betrayed by Darth Vader for the last time, Starkiller has escaped and faces a new journey to find his true identity. It's Tuesday, September 13th. So that means another Xbox Live Deal of the Week. Compared to previously weeks, this week's offering seems a bit sparse. However, were you fan of L.A. Noire? Nevertheless, the game has it's moments as well as an engaging story line. If you enjoyed the main story line, you might be interested in this week's deal - L.A. Noire Rockstar Pass.
