New XBLA releases for October 26, 2011

Sega has really been making a presence for themselves on the Xbox Live Arcade the past several weeks. This week is no different. Today we see one of their arcade classes, Daytona USA, arrive on XBLA. With enhanced graphics, leaderboards, and all that jazz added of course. From the screenshots provided, it looks like the enhanced graphics are probably things like anti-aliasing and higher resolution. The textures definitely have the old school style to them. But if you're a fan of this game you'll definitely want to check it out. The other two games to arrive with Daytona USA are The War of the Worlds and Zombie Apocalypse: Never Die Alone. The great thing about The War of the Worlds is it is narrated by Patrick Stewart! That alone makes it worth it.

Daytona USA - 800 MSP
It’s time to get revved up with Daytona USA! Based on the classic arcade title, Daytona USA features enhanced graphics, tracks for all skill levels, and the original, hit soundtrack! Save your quarters - we’re bringing the arcade straight to your living room with steering wheel and multiplayer support. Challenge your friends with up to eight player online races or the whole world via Xbox LIVE leaderboards!

The War of the Worlds - 800 MSP
The War of the Worlds is a dark and breathtaking new vision of the classic H.G. Wells novel, retold as a 2D side-scrolling platformer, and narrated by the acclaimed actor, Patrick Stewart.

Zombie Apocalypse: Never Die Alone - 800 MSP
Four unlikely heroes find themselves caught in a fight for their lives when the Zombie Apocalypse hits their Canadian community. Banding together for both humor and survival - and armed with everything from guns to cricket bats - the four must find a way off the island... together.

  • XBLA - Dead Rising 2: Case Zero 200 400 Points

Xbox Games on Demand for October 25, 2011 - Scary Games for Halloween.... plus Rio

Microsoft always seems to have some theme going with the game releases and then ruin it with something completely unrelated. Well, perhaps ruin isn't the right word. However, being that Halloween is drawing near games like Saw II and Blood Drive definitely fit the bill for a Halloween-type game. And then on the side is Rio. Or perhaps it's one of those situations where something doesn't fit and is so cutesy it becomes frightening in and of itself. Maybe? Well anyway, here's the scoop on today's releases for the Xbox Games on Demand.

Blood Drive - $49.99 - 1.69GB
The Games on Demand version supports English. It’s the bloodiest and deadliest entertainment sport for a twisted new age: contestants in weaponized vehicles battle swarms of undead and each other in an orgy of ultra violence and self-preservation. You have stepped into the most ruthless modern-day gladiator arena on the planet. With the last man standing as the only survivor, you’ll need to crash, smash, shoot and mutilate your way to live another day!

Saw II - $39.99 - 2.14GB
The Games on Demand version supports English, French, Italian, German, Spanish. Step into the dark and tormented world of SAW II and experience the gruesome traps that Jigsaw has created to test your will to survive. With newly implemented puzzles and combat system, players will need to think fast and react to pass the rigors of the tests Jigsaw has engineered.

Rio - $59.99 - 1.84GB
The Games on Demand version supports English, French, Italian, German, Spanish. From the makers of the hit ICE AGE series comes RIO, a 3D comedy adventure about taking a walk on the wild side. The game focuses on Blu, a rare domesticated bird who travels to the exotic land of Rio. With the help of his female counterpart, Jewel and a group of wise-cracking and smooth-talking city birds, Blu goes on the adventure of his life! Along the way Blu journeys through Rio, dodging soccer balls, collecting tropical fruits and soaring across the beach. He participates in carnivals with new friends and ultimately, forms a conga line and dances his way to first place at the carnival ceremony. While the main character is Blu, players will also have a chance to play as the other characters from the movie in this multiplayer party game!”

New XBLA releases for October 19, 2011

Finally Dungeon Defenders lands on consoles and the PC. If you have been following this game at all, you may have previously been tricked about earlier release dates. But to the defense of Trendy Entertainment, the game was released on both the iOS and Android platforms. However, those games were somewhat lacking. Whether it be in the controls or the graphics department. The game is also free on Android with the developers opting for an in app purchase system to make money to support the game. However, that is all gone for the console versions. Pay it up front! However the game looks great! The other XBLA game to speak of this weeks is none other than a third installment of our beloved puzzler, Bejeweled. However, the price seems a bit steep for Bejeweled. $15.00? I dunno about that...

Dungeon Defenders - 1200 MSP
An ancient evil has been unleashed on the land of Etheria and it’s up to you to defend it in this online (and offline) action RPG! Create your own hero from one of four distinct classes to summon towers and traps and fight back hordes of enemies! Customize and level your hero by defeating enemies, looting equipment and upgrading your gear and pets. Take your character through multiple difficulty modes and challenge/survival missions to earn more experience & even better treasure. To top it off, you can do all of this with up to 4 friends on the same console or over Xbox LIVE! With the content of a full retail release and graphics powered by Unreal Engine 3, Dungeon Defenders is one of the true AAA downloadable titles available on Xbox LIVE!

Bejeweled 3 - 1200 MSP
The biggest, brightest Bejeweled ever! Discover all-new ways to play the world’s #1 puzzle game. Find your perfect match with 8 breathtaking game modes that meet all your moods — ease into Classic Bejeweled for cascades of fun, journey through 40 challenging Quest puzzles, charge into the electrifying Lightning for non-stop action, and tailor your experience in Zen for a revolutionary new way to relax. Enjoy the amazing sights and sounds and engage in endless gem-matching fun, and earn flashy achievement badges as you soar to dazzling new heights!

New XBLA releases for October 12, 2011

We have two new Arcade games to talk about that were released today on the XBLA Marketplace. One of these is REAL STEEL. No, I am not shouting because I am excited about this game, but that is how they write the title out. Anyway, this game is from YUKE's. They're veterans when it comes to making wrestling and UFC-type fighting games. So perhaps this game might have some merit. The other game is Guardian Heroes. I mentioned it last week too. I really want to try this game. It's developed by Treasure, known for hits like Ikaruga and Gunstar Heroes, and was originally on the Sega Saturn. That's a system I know many of us never had an opportunity to use. This one is a definite download for me (demo first of course!).

REAL STEEL 800 MSP
This is a robot boxing game based on the upcoming film, "REAL STEEL". The player assumes the role of an owner of a fighting robot, and must battle against many different rival robots in an attempt to become champion of several levels of fighting tiers. Players earn in-game money by winning matches and, using this money, must periodically improve their robot, making it stronger and more fit to compete in the higher level match tiers. The vast amount of customizable parts and selectable equipment makes for over 100 million possibilities of custom robots! In addition to single-player mode, the game also supports online multiplayer combat, which means players can search for new opponents from all around the world. Take your own personalized robot and aim for the top of the world of robot boxing!

Guardian Heroes 800 MSP
The classic SEGA Saturn adventure returns to Xbox Live Arcade! Guardian Heroes™ features co-op and online play, multiple game modes, optimised graphics, and brand new achievements.

Xbox Games on Demand for October 4, 2011 - We have a Crysis!

Last week we saw Crysis 2 release on Xbox Games on Demand. What better way to follow that up than to release the original Crysis? Also, if you want to play a Crysis game and perhaps don't have the 60 bucks to spend on Crysis 2, this might be the more affordable route since you'll only have to drop 20 clams to download. Any more money slang I can use? Scrilla, scratch, dinero, simoleons? Anyway, three new games to mention that have hit the Xbox Games on Demand today.

New XBLA releases for September 28, 2011

Wednesday! That of course means new releases on the Xbox Live Arcade. Let's take a look at this weeks crop of games... Probably the most notable is Worms Ultimate Mayhem. If you've played the angle and fire turn based worms game before you're in for a bit of a change. 3D gameplay. It is supposed to preserve some of the turn-based aspects though. I'll have to try out the demo. I was never really too keen on the Worms or Worms clone games. The other two games are: a sort of racing game where you slide a blob of goo or mercury around a course called Mercury Hg and a baseball game with encephalitic baseball players called MLB Bobblehead Battle. Oh, I get it, Hg is the periodic symbol for Mercury. Clever. Anyway, scroll below for more details.

Mercury Hg 400 MSP
Mercury is back, all new and in HD! Explore 60 levels of tilting tension, color it, split it and watch the levels pulse to the beat of your own music. Can you attain the top position on the leaderboards and have the world race against your ghost? With the help of the ghost replays shave split seconds off your time and achieve higher scores. Discover the 20 bonus elements and 10 challenges as you explore the world of Mercury Hg.

MLB Bobblehead Battle 800 MSP
(ONLINE INTERACTIONS NOT RATED BY THE ESRB) Knock a curveball out of the ballpark with MLB® Bobblehead Battle! This MLB® bobblehead challenge features all of your favorite teams and players with a unique twist – it’s entirely focused on batting! Create customized fields with various obstacles such as walls and slopes while outsmarting your opponent with a dynamic card system that allows customization of players and more.

Worms: Ultimate Mayhem 1200 MSP
Worms™: Ultimate Mayhem is the definitive 3D Worms™ game! Load your weapons and experience a whole new dimension in destructive turn-based cartoon action! Taking the game into 3D creates all-new strategic and gameplay possibilities. With over 80 single-player missions and challenges, Xbox LIVE multi-player for up to 4 players, 5 multi-player modes, unprecedented customization of both worms and weapons, and fully destructible environments, it’s bursting with anarchic mayhem. Battle and puzzle your way through all of the missions from both “Worms™ 3D” and “Worms™ 4: Mayhem” - it’s essentially two games in one, and is the ultimate 3D Worms™ collection.

Xbox LIVE Deal of the Week September 27 - October 3, 2011

A couple of XBLA games on sale week to mention. Both have a dragon and swords theme, I suppose, if you're looking for any connection between the two. Might & Magic Clash of Heroes is a great puzzler. It's basically an HD version of the DS game that came out before the XBLA version. As for Daggerdale, I haven't heard very many good things about that game. That's definitely a try before you buy title.

  • XBLA - Might & Magic Clash of Heroes 800 1200 Points
  • XBLA - Dungeons & Dragons Daggerdale 800 1200 Points

Xbox Games on Demand for September 27, 2011

While Games on Demand or downloadable games, I feel, in general is a good thing. It beats having to go out to the store at times, especially if it isn't close, and you can download it while you are busy doing other things. But I also always feel that games on demand should not be the same price as they are in the store. I suppose there is the cost of bandwidth for downloading the game but you don't get a box, manual, or physical disc so what justifies the same price? Microsoft, that's just my peeve, especially with Crysis 2 this week. $59.99 to download? But in a brighter light, there is Resident Evil Code: Veronica X. That is new on Xbox so perhaps that justifies it's $19.99 price point although, how old is the game now? Anyway, here is the complete list of releases for Games on Demand for September 27th:

Blur - $39.99 - 5.35GB
The Games on Demand version supports English, French, Italian, German, Spanish. Blur: Powered-Up Racing. Travel the globe to beat the best the streets have to offer. Now the aliens have returned, with a full invasion force bent on nothing less than the total annihilation of mankind, starting by trying to rip the heart out of Earth’s most iconic city.In New York, terrifying alien invaders stalk the streets and a nightmare plague strikes down the city’s myriad inhabitants with brutal epidemic speed. The city’s systems are in chaos, its streets and skyline are smashed and in flaming ruin. This is New York City like you’ve never seen it before.Neither paramilitary law enforcement nor the might of the US military machine can stand against the invaders, and all who choose not to flee are dead men walking. Just to survive in this maelstrom of death will require technology beyond anything any modern soldier has ever seen. One man will inherit that means to survive. One supersoldier, wielding the combat enhancement technology of the future with Nanosuit 2, will make the last stand to save humanity from destruction in the urban jungle that is New York City.

Frontlines: Fuel of War - $19.99 - 6.29GB
Frontlines: Fuel of War is a military-themed infantry and vehicle based, open-world first person shooter. This sets the stage for a massive conventional apocalypse pitting the biggest military powers against each other as they try to defend their interests and support their collapsing economies. Frontlines™: Fuel of War Dedicated Servers will no longer be available for the Microsoft® Xbox 360 after August 31st, 2011. Players can continue to host their own sessions, with a maximum player count of 16.

New Feature! - Xbox Games on Demand for September 20, 2011

In an attempt to make you as aware as possible to the games coming out on Xbox Live, we're going to start a new weekly posting of the Xbox Games on Demand. If you're unfamiliar with this category of games on Xbox, it's basically full retail games that are now available for digital download on your Xbox 360. Occasionally that isn't always the case though. This way you're able to skip running down to the nearest Game Stop and waiting in line to pick up the game. Of course, it's typically games that have been out in the retail space for awhile that hit the Games on Demand. This weeks posting is a bit late as Games on Demand currently land on Xbox Live on Tuesdays.

I'm actually quite excited myself to see one of my favorite games come out to Games on Demand -- Resident Evil 4! Resident Evil 4 in HD! I currently own this game on two systems already too.

Suddenly, the man turns and attempts to strike Leon! Visions of the horror of Raccoon City flood Leon's mind as he realizes his nightmare has not yet ended.

Moreover, you can also use "Power Explosion" to power up your attacking capability and increase the number of your skills, and then commence an "Air Combo" to beat your airborne rival to death! There are a couple of new games out on XBLA this week. Whether they're worth mentioning, who knows? From what I've seen thus far I am somewhat unimpressed. Without further ado, I present to you, the new Xbox Live Arcade games for wednesday, September 21st:

Xbox LIVE Arcade releases for May 11, 2011

There are a couple new releases to talk about on XBLA this morning. One of them is another attempt by Atari to bring life back to an old title, Star Raiders. Unfortunately a month ago they released another remake, Yar's Revenge, which failed to turn many heads. Hopefully this title reboot fairs better. The other is a somewhat anticipated title, Gatling Gears, published by Electronic Arts and developed by Vanguard Games. Remember, try the demo before buying. This is one of the great features I enjoy about Xbox. It has saved me countless of dollars!

Star Raiders
xbox.com:
Star Raiders features a fresh new take on the seminal classic, letting you engage in epic dogfights and aerial assaults against the onslaught of the evil Zylons. Utilize radical ship transformations and robot co-pilots in the heat of battle as you fight to save humanity. Gatling Gears

Together with his niece and his trusty Gatling Gear unit he must fight his way to the heart of the Empire and eliminate the destruction at its source. This product supports the following languages: In-game speech: English; On-screen text: English.

Xbox LIVE Arcade releases for May 4, 2011

A couple of new releases on XBLA to talk about. One is a remake of a DS game called Bangai-O. If you thought "bullet-hell" games were hell, wait until you play "missile-hell." It's actually described as missile fury in the game but I think you get the point. The other is a game that I'm quite interested in called Moon Diver. It's a classic side-scroller where you hack and slash your enemies to oblivion. I've heard that the difficulty is pretty up there but it's also a good throwback to classic games.

Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury
xbox.com:
Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury is an innovative and insanely addicting, omni-directional arcade shooter combined with puzzle elements that feature a screen-filling, sensory overload of thousands of missiles! Loaded with more than 100 levels, players will conquer challenging obstacles, collect power-ups, and annihilate swarms of enemies and missiles to clear a level! Key game highlights include: a Level Editor Tool, which allows players to design and share their own levels with friends; a unique design style evident in the insane gameplay, from the types of enemies to the award system of collecting delectable fruit; and a combo system that lets players build up devastating counter attacks of up to 1,000 missiles for an explosive advantage!an explosive advantage!

Moon Diver
xbox.com:
The Earth lies in ruins. In the year 2081, five warriors suddenly appeared during an eclipse and began the fight to take back Earth. Introducing MOON DIVER, an easy-to-control side-scrolling action game for 1–4 players. Get ready for non-stop acrobatic action on the ground, walls, and even ceilings! Characters can level up, gain new abilities, and unleash devastating special attacks known as MoonSault Combinations!

20 Free and Easy Microsoft Points per Month

If you've joined Xbox LIVE Rewards, you might have noticed they have a small survey in the upper right area of the web site. Filling this survey will net you a quick and easy 20 Microsoft Points. Sure, 20 isn't very many and can't buy you anything on the Microsoft Marketplace, but think back to those times when you were actually buying something and were just a few points short. Well, it may not fix that anytime soon either since the surveys are only monthly and you have to accumulate 100 Microsoft Points overall before they are paid out. But hey, it's fast and simple so why not?

Win 10,000 Microsoft Points from Xbox Live Rewards!

Microsoft is currently running a trivia challenge for those registered for the Xbox LIVE Rewards program. The grand prize is 10,000 Microsoft points. That is a lot of XBLA arcade titles! They call it the Gamer IQ Trivia Challenge. Basically you are given 4 questions per day. For each correct answer you earn a drawing into the sweepstakes for the grand prize of 10,000 Microsoft Points. So each day you can earn up to 4 entries. In addition there are instant prizes which is pretty cool. The Daily Instant Win Prizes are 1000, 800, 400, and 100 Microsoft Points. There are several of each instant prize per day though I'm not really sure how many of each.

But remember to participate in the Gamer IQ challenge you need to be part of the Xbox LIVE Rewards program.

Welcome to the Xbox LIVE Rewards Blog!

Welcome to the Xbox Live Rewards blog. The purpose of this blog is to inform you about all the latest offers and deals from Microsoft's Xbox LIVE Rewards program. If you haven't heard about it check it out! Microsoft began the program several months ago. It rewards Xbox LIVE members with Microsoft Points for doing everyday Xbox stuff like purchasing XBLA games, subscribing to Xbox LIVE Gold membership, enabling Netflix, and much more. Personally I think it's about time Microsoft started giving back to the user. I've accumulated a nice chunk of Microsoft Points over the past few months. Mainly from renewing my Xbox Live Gold membership.

The only downside, which isn't too bad considering you're getting free points, is that you have to earn at least 100 Microsoft Points before they will credit them to your account. So even if you earn points you may not get to use them until several months later. So if you can live with that you should definitely check out the Xbox LIVE Rewards program and join.
